What to ask a roofing contractorMay 31, 2017
Protech Roofing have put together a list of important questions that you should ask before hiring a roofing contractor. It’s important to ask these questions because depending on what work you need doing, it can be expensive. Plus, if it’s not done right the first time not only could you have leaks and further damage to your roof and home, there will be more costs associated with the re-work and those covering the unnecessary damage.
- Are you fully licensed?
This is a standard requirement, but is important to confirm because being a licensed roofer means they are fully qualified to undertake any necessary works; trained in health and safety; and, of course, versed in the many building regulations you may not be aware of.
- How long have you been trading?
This all depends on your personal preference, some people are happy with relatively new contractors, whilst others prefer those with countless years of experience behind them.
- Do you hire subcontractors?
Just like you did with your roof contractor – ask them if they hire subcontractors. After all you’re offering them business, so it’s normal to want to know those that will be doing the job.
- Can you tell me about the warranty?
You want to hear about the warranty because if you have any problems, you know that you can get it fixed, hassle-free.
- Do you have any other homeowner testimonials?
Like anything we invest in, we all like to know about other people’s experience to help us make a decision. Also, it’s nice to know whether they’re a company that you can rely on.
- Do you have insurance?
If the contractors don’t have insurance then the homeowner may be accountable for the costs related to any injuries or accidents. So avoid being responsible for costs that should be covered by their own insurance.
